Rolex created its Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative as a biennial program, established to make a significant contribution to the arts by helping to perpetuate the world’s artistic heritage. In keeping with its tradition of supporting individual excellence, the company is giving emerging artists time to learn, create and grow. For each program cycle, Rolex invites masters in the performing arts, visual arts, film and literature to provide individual guidance to gifted young artists who have not yet attracted the support their talent warrants.

Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre presents an evening of world premiere works at Dance Theater Workshop (DTW), July 13 - 15 at 7:30pm; and July 16 at 2pm. Inspired by sinister 19th Century Czech ballads and set to a lush and eclectic score of strings, Košile is an epic tale with supernatural elements that examines the impact of pagan mythology on more contemporary perceptions of fate and gender. ScENes, the second premiere, is a collection of six, highly kinetic dream–like fantastical sketches set to the rich music of contemporary composer/violinist Michael Galasso. The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble’s work transports viewers to enchanted worlds of magic and spirituality with the sensuous flow of Odissi, the oldest of India's classical dance forms. Originally a sacred ritual, Odissi is marked by lyricism and curved bodylines that bring alive the ancient temple sculptures of India. Choreographed by Artistic Director Surupa Sen, performances feature renowned soloists Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy, the Nrityagram ensemble, with live music. MOSAIC:
MOSAIC
MOSAIC is a quartet of instrumentalists made up of a unique core combination of flute, cello, piano and percussion -- no other chamber group presently exists with this specific makeup. In addition to concert programming, part of MOSAIC’s focus is to produce multi-disciplinary events that treat either new or already-composed music as a centerpiece and equal component to whatever artistic discipline might be involved in these distinct projects.

For more than 20 years, Arts at St. Ann’s presented its vital an eclectic performing arts series at the historic St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn Heights. The organization recently relocated to the emerging Brooklyn neighborhood, DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), where the new St. Ann’s Warehouse at 38 Water has become one of New York City’s essential performance venues. Arts at St. Ann’s has forged relationships with The Wooster Group, government officials, local developers and Brooklyn Bridge Park advocates to establish a permanent home on the Brooklyn waterfront. Arts at St. Ann’s has long been recognized for inventive concert and new music/theater presentations. Through its signature multi-artist concerts, Arts at St. Ann’s celebrates the panoramic traditions of American and world cultures, with forays into a variety of contemporary forms, including new commissions and multi-disciplinary collaborations. St. Ann’s Warehouse is also the home of The Lab, Arts at St. Ann’s acclaimed professional puppet theater workshop led by Dan Hurlin and Theodora Skipitares.

Dance Films Association, Inc. (DFA), a non-profit,tax-exempt, membership organization, supports all these efforts by promoting excellence in dance films and video and public awareness through festivals, screenings, publications, grants, and workshops. Its many partners: Film Society of Lincoln Center, Jerome Robbins Dance Division of the New York Public Library, the Puffin Room and its many touring partners around the world help to bring its programs to a wide public.
